What is Inter-se Merit for Disabled Candidates

Inter-se merit refers to the relative ranking of candidates within a specific category based on their performance in the selection criteria. It determines the order of preference among candidates who belong to the same quota or group.

For example, in the Punjab Educator Policy 2025, a separate inter-se merit list will be prepared for disabled candidates. This means that disabled applicants will only compete among themselves, and their ranking will be based on their academic qualifications, test scores, and other selection criteria, just like general candidates.

let’s say there are 100 teaching positions, and 2% (2 seats) are reserved for disabled candidates. Now, assume 10 disabled candidates apply. Even though they are not competing with general candidates, they still need to compete among themselves for those 2 reserved seats. Their ranking will be based on:

  • Education (marks in degrees)
  • Test scores
  • Experience (if applicable)

The top 2 candidates from this separate list will be selected. This ranking system is called inter-se merit. It ensures fairness within a reserved category.
