KP PMS Screening Test Updates 2025

KP PMS Screening Test

KPPSC has recently announced job openings for PMS Officers and Assistant Executive Training Officers (AETOs). In November 2024, several amendments were introduced to refine the selection process. As part of the updated recruitment process, the screening test has now been made mandatory for all candidates.

KP PMS Screening Test Amendments 2024

Introduction of the Screening Test

The KPPSC can now decrease the number of candidates who are invited to the viva voce (oral interview) phase by holding a Screening Test. This decision has been implemented to address situations where the number of eligible candidates is disproportionately high compared to the available vacancies.

Purpose of the Screening Test

The Screening Test serves as an initial filtering mechanism. It will assess candidates’ knowledge and aptitude in general knowledge and relevant fields. This allows the commission to shortlist a manageable number of candidates for the subsequent stages, such as the written examination and viva voce.

KP PMS Screening Test Syllabus (2025)

KP PMS screening test syllabus aligns with the existing syllabus of the Provincial Management Service Competitive Examination. The Screening Test will be conducted with a focus on Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) across various subjects. The test will be structured as follows:

Sr. No.SubjectMaximum Marks
1English20
2Current Affairs20
3Everyday Science20
4Pakistan Affairs20
5(a) Islamiat (for Muslim candidates)
(b) Civics and Ethics (for Non-Muslim candidates)
20
TOTAL100

KP PMS Screening Test Passing Criteria

The passing percentage for the KP PMS Screening Test is not fixed in all cases and may vary each year based on the difficulty level of the test, the total number of applicants, and the decision made by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission (KPPSC).

However, based on recent amendments and the structure of the exam, the passing threshold for the PMS screening test is set at 40% to qualify for the next stage (the written examination). This threshold can vary depending on the overall performance of candidates and the discretion of KPPSC.

Impact of KP PMS Screening Test on In-Service Candidates

The in-service candidates (those already employed within the government) will not be required to take the screening test. However, they will still have to meet other eligibility criteria and proceed with the written examination and viva voce stages.

In-Service Candidates Exemption

  • In-service candidates will directly proceed to the written examination stage without having to appear for the screening test.
  • This exemption helps to expedite the process for current government employees.

Significant Change in KP PMS Exam Structure 2025

With the introduction of the screening test, the subsequent stages of the PMS examination process will be more streamlined.

Written Examination

Candidates who qualify the screening test will move on to the written examination, where they will be tested on the PMS syllabus for the main exam.

Viva Voce (Interview)

Following the written exam, the final stage is the interview, or viva voce. The screening test will help reduce the number of candidates reaching the interview stage, making it more competitive and efficient.

Screening Test Timeline for 2025

The KPPSC has introduced a timed schedule for the screening test process. Here’s the expected timeline:

  • Screening Test Date: The test will be held before the written examination.
  • Written Exam: Only those who clear the screening test will be eligible to appear in the written exam.
  • Interview/Viva Voce: Following the written exam, candidates who pass will be called for the viva voce (interview) stage.

Conclusion

Introducing the screening test for KP PMS is a positive step, but the key question is: What will the benchmark be to qualify for the written exam? In the past, It was 50% in 2013 and 2016, reduced to 40%, and then dropped further to 20% in 2018. In 2022, KPPSC introduced a policy of 25 candidates per seat, which was later revoked by the Cabinet. To ensure consistency, KPPSC should set a fixed passing percentage for the PMS screening test rather than fluctuating it each year.
